Good stuff about technology

What is Web 2.0?

So you don't know what Web 2.0 means, simply put, it's the readability and writablity of the internet. It's not a new internet, it's all about the interactivity and productivity applications on the internet that provide you with 24/7 ability to produce, communicate, collaborate, share, store, network and learn. One of the best things about these Web 2.0 applications is that they are FREE!!

Today's students need something more! We can no longer wait to begin integrating the latest and most effective Web 2.0 Applications into our daily instructional repetoire. The time is now! We can choose to either engage our students in more interactive, collaborative enriched environments or loose them to digital interests outside of the classroom. If we don't become more serious about how we educate in the 21st Century, we will begin losing even more of the student academic interest, enthusiasm, and success. If we are serious about educational reform, we must look to the future of our world and begin assisting our students with not only content area literacy, but digital literacy as well. We are obligated to prepare our students for what is now being called Enterprise 2.0. As a devoted teacher and visionary, I have designed this web site to assist teachers and other professionals with the tools and strategies to effectively and meaningfully implement them into current practices. How does Pequea Valley use Web 2.0 applications??? Write how YOU use it down here so others can see and copy your ideas!!!

Wikis
I have lab groups create a wiki where they write their lab report. This encourages more collaboration since the document is available to each group member online at anytime. The wiki keeps track of how much work each person did for me. I use edu20.org for this. ~Webb

Blogs
I have students pick a current events article from the internet. They then put a link to the article, write a summary of the article, and write a paragraph describing how it relates to their life, all in their blog. Other students then pick two other students' articles to read and write a response to. It gets the kids using blogs, cuts down on my paperwork (don't need to print anything out), and gets kids collaborating. I use edu20.org for this. ~Webb

Forums
I have students read a section in the book, and post a summary of the section in the forum. I will post a question to the class on this forum. Other students then read the section in the book and the summary and write a response to the question. Students can either write their own opinion or respond to the opinion of another student. I use edu20.org for this. ~Webb

Google Earth

delicious.com
Even though we can't access the site at PV, I have all of my bookmarks from Internet Explorer saved online at this site. Students can access my site and click on the bookmarks to go to different websites. Each bookmark is tagged with a word that describes what it's about, such as "motion" or "atoms." I can even choose not to share certain bookmarks (like answer keys). This allows me to access these bookmarks anywhere I have an internet connection. Hopefully we'll be able to access these at school. ~Webb
